Within the city of Rio stands a giant, flat-topped, granite rock, which at an altitude of 842m provides the best, most complete 360º view of the city.

Pedra da Gavea is the largest coastal monolith on the planet. Starting at almost sea-level the trail takes us into the Atlantic Forest, climbing the tree shaded slopes until we reach a series of plateaus giving us previews of the spectacular views we will see ahead.

The climb takes approximately 3hrs and is for the reasonably fit. In parts you will need to use your hands and feet to climb, including a short rock climb (25m) where we provide safety equipment as an added precaution. The challenge is rewarded when you reach the top and stand on this feat of nature to take in the views stretching from the Atlantic Ocean the south side of the city and its golden sand beaches, across Barra da Tijuca and the west of the city, Sugar Loaf, Corcovado and beyond into the largest urban forest in the world.

- Transport to and from the trail
- Bilingual guides specialized in the activity, equipped with communication radios
- The necessary safety equipment for the activity (hope, helmet, bouldrier, gloves, 1st aid kit, repellent, lamp and walking pole)
